OpenAI says a group of agents, using a next-generation model significantly more capable than "GPT-6 Astra," produced a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, unresolved for roughly 90 years.
Responding to scooping concerns from mathematicians Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster, OpenAI states neither researchers nor agents saw their work before public release and no specific user data was accessed — though it cannot rule out that de-identified usage data helped improve its models. It notes the proofs differ substantially, with different results in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).
