OpenAI announces its in-training model delivers a "step-function improvement" on many benchmarks: its internal model group arrived at a Navier–Stokes solution in 88 hours using around 10,000 coordinating AI agents, under strict frontier-evaluation safeguards including monitoring and isolation.

Noam Brown says many mathematicians and physicists at OpenAI had their "Lee Sedol moment" watching the model solve open problems they'd struggled with for years — it's hard to "feel the AGI" until AI surpasses you in a domain you care deeply about.
