Hugging Face and Earthmover released a blog and demo to lower the barrier to running open-weight AI weather forecasting models.
- Models like ECMWF's AIFS, Microsoft's Aurora, and Google DeepMind's open-sourced WeatherNext 2 run inference in seconds on laptops or small clusters, and their weights are on HF.
- Lack of standardized documentation means few labs can actually run them; the tutorial covers fetching initial conditions from Earthmover Marketplace, building input batches, running inference, and validating against historical climate data.
- A demo space lets you run Aurora, WeatherNext 2, and AIFS directly in the browser.
