ArmorPaint, the open-source node-based 3D texture painting app long seen as a Substance 3D Painter alternative, has officially reached version 1.0 after seven years in development.
- Rewritten from Haxe/V8 into pure C with zero external libraries — custom 3D engine, 2D drawing system, and UI, small enough to fit on two 1.44MB floppy disks
- Supports Direct3D 12, Vulkan, Metal, and WebGPU, with ray tracing on all major desktop platforms
- Adds mesh modifiers (Decimate/Smooth/Bevel/Subdivide), a basic UV map editor, a Timeline tab, skinning animation playback, and tween animations
- Introduces "Neural Nodes" for generative AI features that run locally on-device
