Australian health AI startup Harrison.ai is laying off local staff and pivoting to the US just a year after receiving a $32M federal government investment meant to keep its operations in Australia.
- It is launching Frontier Radiology, a US-based teleradiology service that hires American clinicians and pays them to use its AI tools — a model experts flagged as a potential conflict of interest affecting patient care.
- The company previously drew criticism for training its AI on millions of Australians' medical scans without their knowledge.
- A company leader said the restructuring, aimed at turning every employee into a "player-coach" of AI agents, prompted further departures.
- Founded by brothers Aengus and Dimitry Tran in 2018, Harrison.ai builds AI tools that help doctors interpret radiology scans.
