Economist Noah Smith pushes back on the "AI replaces humans" narrative with four charts:
- Companies that use AI tend to hire more humans, not fewer
- Firms are more likely to say AI has created new tasks for humans than to say it has replaced them
- The whole economy still has plenty of jobs overall
He adds that software engineers and radiologists are at all-time highs, and even the number of translators hasn't declined: "MAYBE AI DOESN'T DO WHAT YOU THINK IT DOES."
