- Batchu et al. simulate 3.6 million methane plumes with a physical dispersion model and radiative-transfer calculations, injecting them into real EMIT satellite imagery — synthetic plumes get perfect labels while terrain, atmosphere, reflectance and sensor noise stay real.
- The resulting MAPL-EMIT model uses a Swin Transformer encoder inside a U-Net-like architecture, jointly predicting methane enhancement, plume boundaries and source locations from the same hyperspectral input, enabling detection of weaker leaks.
