Hermes agent user slams 'everything app': tools and gateway features riddled with bugs

matviy · x · 2026-09-07

User matviy published a detailed critique of Nous Research's Hermes agent: it works fine until you enable tools, gateways, context, and integrations — then endless bugs appear, with the team reportedly fixing one issue and introducing two new ones every couple of days. He questions the point of an 'everything app' whose advanced features can't be relied on.

A public spat followed with Teknium, Hermes' lead developer at Nous Research. The user cited concrete desktop bugs: the project files menu showing the wrong folder, a fallback-logic bug silently switching to a Nous subscription he never set up and breaking tool calling, and missing status bar options. Teknium countered that the desktop app is much newer than the CLI, that 95% of commits in every release are fixes and reliability work, and noted 17,500 open issues — the exchange ended acrimoniously.
