Tong Xin, who spent 25 years at Microsoft Research Asia leading its Network Graphics group, has joined Meshy—the AI 3D startup founded by MIT grad Hu Yuanming—as Chief Scientist. Meshy, which turns text and images into 3D models, has 12 million users, counts half of the world's top-ten most valuable companies as clients, and raised nearly $400M in July at a valuation above $1B, a record for AI 3D.

Their shared ambition is rebuilding graphics around generative AI: abandoning the triangle-based rendering pipeline's local optimum, building a director system, and redesigning low-latency infra. Hu also unveiled Mora, a multimodal open-world real-time architecture chaining a coding agent (world skeleton), Meshy 3D generation, and a video model for rendering—an early answer to world models like Genie 3, sidestepping video-only models' consistency and interactivity limits.
