A debate broke out over whether GPT-6 Astra counts as AGI.
- It started with a developer's open letter to Jensen Huang listing AGI criteria: human-level performance across all fields (not SOTA on benchmarks), long-horizon autonomy without a human in the loop, and learning from little data via self-improvement rather than trillion-token pretraining — plus the jibe "it can't cook for me."
- teortaxesTex pushed back: people don't care about the "intelligence" in AGI, they just want a general-purpose slave — by that standard Kant wasn't generally intelligent. Astra is AGI.
The fight is really about how to weight benchmark performance, autonomy, and practical utility in defining AGI.
