- API = loading dock: for 20 years every truck driver (developer) was a trained pro who read docs, learned quirks, and wrote adapters; regular users never touched the back.
- The shift: coding agents mean millions of AI drivers—never seen your API—now pull up, hitting 50 custom docks a day.
- The problem: every dock has a different ramp, intercom, and paperwork; humans improvise, agents can't afford to.
- MCP = the standardized dock: MCP server is the dock manager handing every driver the same spec sheet; MCP client is the dispatcher in the cab (Claude, Cursor, etc.).
One of the most intuitive explainers for why MCP exists.
