GPT-6 Astra can annotate baseball seams — but only on cropped ROI in ideal conditions
nickbaumann_ · x · 2026-09-07
Kyle Boddy of Driveline tested GPT-6 Astra (xhigh) for baseball seam annotation:
- With the full image, quality isn't good enough to replace manual annotation
- With cropped ROI, Astra labels seams fairly well in ideal conditions, though accuracy degrades fast
- Verdict: Astra might help pitching analysis, but input framing matters more than the model itself
