Dan Jeffries: embedded reasoning will kill the CoT-distillation accusations against Chinese models
Dan_Jeffries1 · x · 2026-09-06
Writer Dan Jeffries argues that as models like Astra move to embedded reasoning, the chain of "Chinese distillation attacks" collapses: if chain-of-thought isn't accessible—or isn't actually what's happening inside the model—there's nothing to gain from exposing the "thinking" process. The real reason Chinese models are excellent, he adds, is simply that they have great engineers.
