Audacity 4.0 lands after 5.5 years with redesigned UI, dark mode and Workspaces

Open-source audio editor Audacity has released version 4.0.0, its first major update in about five and a half years. The release brings a fully redesigned UI, dark mode, customizable Workspaces, and smoother editing workflows (trim, move, undo), remaining cross-platform on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
With 100M+ downloads since 2000, the project also supports VST3/Nyquist plugins, spectrogram and Vamp-based analysis, and recently shipped OpenVINO AI plugins (music separation, noise suppression, generation, transcription) on macOS, plus the Audio.com companion for online collaboration and versioned backups.
