Fable 5.1 and GPT 6 both fail overnight to fix a memory leak they correctly diagnosed

Victor Taelin documented how both Fable 5.1 and GPT 6 failed overnight to fix a memory leak in Bend2's runtime, under constraints of not growing the codebase and not regressing benchmarks. Notably, both identified the correct root cause but failed at the fix — evidence, he argues, that we're not quite at AGI yet.

Quoting him, robleclerc adds that AI latches onto proximate causes and struggles to step back to ultimate causes; even a custom recursive "why?" RCA skill still needs hand-holding.
