Recreating his hometown as a drivable 3D simulation with Astra, lidar and aerial imagery
AndyMasley · x · 2026-09-06
Andy Masley used Astra to slowly build an interactive drivable 3D simulation of Webster, Massachusetts, playable in the browser with arrow keys or touch controls.
The town combines MassGIS mapping, spring 2025 aerial imagery, and 2021 USGS lidar for terrain and roof heights, with selected landmarks and homes modeled from public exterior photos — part driving game, part reconstruction of a real place.
