OpenAI quietly kills Codex infinite-usage bug; user burned 30-40x quota in 8 hours

returnity · reddit · 2026-09-06

OpenAI fixed overnight the Codex usage-limits bug that allowed unlimited Astra access. One user estimates they burned 30-40x their normal 5-hour quota in 8 hours: a single Astra Ultra workflow plus one Astra xhigh run consumed 75% of their Pro plan limit (they normally use Claude Max).

With the windfall they built a full 3D interactive game as a birthday gift, converted a grad semester of coursework into an LLM Wiki knowledge base, and ported 2 years of Claude skills/agents/commands/memory into Codex format. A side-by-side Fable 5.1 vs. Astra ML workflow comparison is promised next.
