Turn equirect panoramas into reference videos for consistent MiniMax H3 scenes
jimtonyk · reddit · 2026-09-06
The author tried reusing environments in MiniMax H3 and found the popular trick of feeding equirectangular panoramas as reference images doesn't actually work — H3 doesn't understand the projection and only lines up on close-up shots, while environment reference images overpower other prompts.
His fix: convert the panorama into a regular reference video with ffmpeg (scroll + v360 filters producing a 90° FOV pan), then feed the video as a reference. 48 frames are enough for consistent, unwarped results, and the model correctly maps "the bed" to the bed in the video.
Remaining quirks: out-the-window shots need verbose descriptions or H3 adds a new window, and scene changes like a broken mirror must be re-described in later shots. Full workflow included.
