Stop pricing agents in tokens: charge per completed task to absorb retries and provider price cuts
atShruti · x · 2026-09-06
Nearly every agent deck prices in tokens, which imports your model provider's cost structure and invites customers to compare you against raw compute. When the provider cuts prices, your price follows it down; when your agent retries three times, retries silently eat your margin.
The fix: price the completed task instead. Then you can absorb a retry, swap models underneath, and keep the same invoice.
