OpenAI's latest general-purpose model GPT-6 Astra is now generally available in GitHub Copilot, aimed at long-horizon autonomous coding and agentic work.
- In GitHub's internal testing, it plans and validates as it goes, batches diagnosis with verification, and independently confirms results before declaring a task done
- This translated into stronger performance on long-horizon coding tasks with fewer steps than prior OpenAI models
- Available to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users across VS Code, Copilot CLI, the coding agent, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and more
- Billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing; enterprise admins can manage access via model policy
- Rollout is gradual
