Per Reuters exclusive, the US and China plan mid-September AI safety talks, led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China's Vice Premier He Lifeng, with Kratsios possibly joining from the US side and Ding Xuexiang and Science Minister Yin Hejun from China.
- Proposed agenda: cooperation on monitoring AI-directed cyberattacks, concern over a future Chinese "Mythos-level" model with cyberattack capabilities, and Chinese distillation of US models.
- Former Microsoft exec Craig Mundie, co-chair of the unofficial Track II dialogue, is sounding out Chinese counterparts on US proposals.
- A Track 1.5 dialogue in Beijing last week also covered guardrails.
