Claude formalizes Fermat's Last Theorem in Lean: 13M lines, 29,000 new theorems
eyishazyer · x · 2026-09-05
Claude has reportedly produced the first complete Lean formalization of Fermat's Last Theorem — 13 million lines of code and 29,000 auxiliary theorems never formalized before, done in roughly a month. The theorem stood unsolved for 350 years, and Wiles's 1995 proof took mathematicians years to verify by hand; the formalization was expected to take years. Full writeup and proof linked.
