Ben Goertzel slams Sanders' Artificial Superintelligence ban as 'half right, almost entirely wrong'
bengoertzel · x · 2026-09-05
Ben Goertzel published a long-form critique of the Sanders–Casar "Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act." He agrees with the diagnosis that humanity's future shouldn't be decided by a handful of Big Tech oligarchs, but argues the prescription is almost entirely wrong: a ban wouldn't stop AGI from arriving — it would just drive development underground and push open, honest researchers out of the game.
Writing as a self-described "long-time leftie," Goertzel warns this kind of approach is how the left forfeits its influence over the most consequential transition in human history.
