PwC survey: 56% of CEOs say AI has delivered no revenue gains or cost savings
marigo · x · 2026-09-05
A new PwC survey of 4,454 CEOs found that most companies still aren't seeing financial returns from AI: only 30% reported AI-driven revenue growth in the past year, 56% said AI has boosted neither revenue nor costs, and just 12% achieved both.
Despite tens of billions poured into data centers and infrastructure, productivity gains remain elusive. Strikingly, executives are less worried about over-investing than about falling behind — PwC global chair Mohamed Kande warned the gap between a small group of companies converting AI into measurable returns and the majority stuck in pilots is widening fast.
PwC attributes the weak returns to missing "AI foundations": clearly defined roadmaps and sufficient levels of investment.
