Anthropic launched the Claude for Open Source Program, offering 6 months of free Claude Max 20x to open-source contributors. Eligibility includes:
- Maintainers/library authors: 500+ dependent repos, 100+ dependent packages, or 200k+ combined monthly downloads;
- Core contributors: listed committers/maintainers on CPython, Rust, Node.js, Apache, CNCF, Kubernetes, Linux kernel, etc.;
- Active contributors: 100+ merged PRs into others' repos in the last 12 months;
- Community builders: repos with 20+ unique external contributors;
- Critical infrastructure: OpenSSF criticality score ≥ 0.4.
Others can still apply with context. After 6 months, paid plans resume; otherwise accounts revert to free. The poster, after receiving OpenAI's 6-month $200 Pro membership for open-source creators, applied to this program too.
