Anthropic announced that last month Claude completed the first formalized proof of Fermat's Last Theorem — converting Andrew Wiles' 1995 proof into a machine-checkable form. Experts expected the project to take years. The proof totals over 13 million lines of Lean code, the largest ever written, and machine-verifies more than 29,000 supporting theorems the main proof depends on.
