Math should copy speedrun culture with diverse leaderboards, researcher proposes

RexDouglass · x · 2026-09-05

Rex Douglass proposes that mathematics adopt the speedrun community's approach of creating diverse, disaggregated leaderboards for as many categories as people care about. Speedrunning's "pure cultural forking"—separate boards for human-only vs tool-assisted records—costs nothing to maintain, so one person's success takes nothing from another's. Math, he argues, hasn't disaggregated yet, despite the rise of AI-assisted proof work.
