GPT-6 Astra lands in GitHub Copilot with focus on long-horizon autonomous coding

GitHub announced that OpenAI's latest general-purpose model, GPT-6 Astra, is now generally available in GitHub Copilot for Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users.
- The model targets long-horizon autonomous coding and agentic tasks. GitHub says it plans and validates as it goes, batches diagnosis with verification, and independently confirms results before finishing — translating into stronger long-horizon coding performance with fewer steps than prior OpenAI models.
- It's billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing.
- Available across VS Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, Copilot coding agent, github.com, GitHub Mobile, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse, with gradual rollout.
- Business/Enterprise admins can control access via model policy; new models are enabled by default unless explicitly disabled.
