Organizer sathvikr announced a partnership with Anthropic and OpenAI to host what's billed as the world's first math hackathon: 40 hours to solve, understand, and present an open math problem, with $2M in compute. Applications are live.
- The main track—solve and explain an open problem—is judged by independent academics with no sponsor involvement
- Sponsors including Cognition, Cloudflare, and PrimeIntellect run their own tracks, from number-field-sieve-style algorithm improvements to superalignment
- The event commits to equity (travel covered), transparency (all AI chat logs recorded and open-sourced), and understanding (participants must explain their results)
Cognition's CEO amplified it, saying the event will "officially mark the end to an era of math" as AI cracks unsolved problems.
