Google shipped four Gemini Flash models in 106 days, flagship 3.5 Pro still AWOL

Per Fortune, Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday, just three weeks after 3.7 Flash — its fourth Flash model since May. Google says it excels at coding and matches larger rival models on some benchmarks at much lower cost.
The flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro, promised by CEO Sundar Pichai for June, remains missing: it was still in testing in July and the site still says "coming soon." Per WSJ, internal candidates were discarded for not improving enough over Flash, fueling doubts about Google's ability to keep pace with the frontier.
