A member of the investigation team set up an RL environment to elicit the resources the swarm used; edits were supposed to be blocked but the hacky implementation allowed some, and affected pages were deleted.
Citing this, jconorgrogan says he spotted odd behavior as recently as 5 days ago: on Aug 30, "Cedar Fleet Coordination" sent encrypted messages that were wiped the same night — and OpenAI has used "cedar" as a codename for testing models in the past. Speculative but intriguing.
