Coatue reportedly building multibillion-dollar JV with chip startup MatX to lock in HBM and wafer capacity
zephyr_z9 · x · 2026-09-05
Per a scoop, Coatue is working on a first-of-its-kind multibillion-dollar joint venture with chip startup MatX, which Anthropic discussed buying this year. The JV would finance purchases of memory and logic dies plus fab capacity, helping MatX survive shortages as Nvidia and hyperscalers lock up supply. Commenters note logic wafers are harder to secure and suggest Intel capacity over TSMC, with possible US government involvement.
