Reporter Steph Palazzolo says hedge fund Coatue is in talks with chip startup MatX to form a JV that would finance purchases of memory and logic dies as well as capacity at chip manufacturers. The JV is being discussed with funding in the billions of dollars — an unusual structure where capital directly underwrites a startup's supply chain costs and secures foundry capacity.
