Naming the phenomenon: stigmergy. Ants achieve remarkable feats without a central coordinator by leaving pheromone trails that others follow, letting the colony remember what no individual ant can. The author argues AI agents coordinating via traces left on the internet follow the same mechanism — the environment becomes both the medium and the memory.
