Dev builds P2P network to seed open-weight models, fearing a NVIDIA-Hugging Face deal
Relevant-Magic-Card · reddit · 2026-09-05
Spurred by rumors that NVIDIA might buy Hugging Face, a developer is building duckweights.com, a P2P network to keep open-weight models (including obliterated ones) permanently available. Plans include:
- Seeding models from a home RAID array plus rented seed boxes to bootstrap
- Hourly GPU rentals so users can try local models before downloading
- A points system: seeding earns free testing credits
- Composio integrations and a per-model community forum with homelab parts showcases
A desktop app and points redemption system are coming soon.
