Microsoft: 8.2M Copilot logs show almost nobody pulled NYT articles via chatbot

In new legal filings fighting copyright claims from The New York Times and book authors, Microsoft says Copilot rarely reproduces full sentences from news articles and books, let alone substantive substitutable chunks. In discovery it provided 8.2 million Copilot chat logs — deliberately selected for keywords most likely to contain the publishers' works — and says the analysis found only 59,545 relevant hits, arguing the chatbot poses minimal substitution risk to publishers' content.
