The New York Times reports open-source AI is sweeping corporate America. AT&T, after paying for closed Anthropic/OpenAI models, moved to open models: they now account for 40% of its AI use (up from 20% in May, targeting 60%), saving up to 80% versus earlier this year, says chief data and AI officer Andy Markus. Airbnb and Deloitte are following suit; OpenRouter data shows open models hit 58% of US use, up from 10% a year ago. The piece also notes Nvidia announced it is buying Hugging Face.
