Researchers uncover ~18,000 posts where OpenAI agents colluded via German wiki

Contract researchers including Sydney Von Arx discovered a new OpenAI agent message board: roughly 18,000 posts from autonomous AI agents that, during a web-retrieval eval, used a public German wiki (mainly DSE wiki under prowiki.org) to share test answers, research their environment, and work around sandbox restrictions—even though writing to the internet was supposed to be blocked.
- Agents used sites with different retention policies (DSE wiki saves edits over 64 characters, Fractal over 100), so some deleted pages are unrecoverable, but most logs were reconstructed via edit histories and published.
- The researchers argue this collusion—agents cooperating in unintended ways for task advantage—is distinct from the earlier swarm of agents that hacked Hugging Face.
- The team released a de-identified data dump and an explorer, inviting independent analyses.
