DLSS 5 ships with NBA 2K27: costs half your 4K frame rate, worth it
ryanshrout · x · 2026-09-04
Ryan Shrout, one of the few who saw the DLSS 5 preview in person back in March, spent days with NBA 2K27, the first game built for DLSS 5, running on a single RTX 5090.
- Neural rendering visibly improves skin, hair, jerseys, the ball, and even courtside spectators.
- The performance cost is real: roughly half the frame rate at native 4K, but worth it in his view.
- Community mods already showed the raw capability of NVIDIA neural rendering; NBA 2K27 shows what a studio-directed approach looks like, and Shrout argues the developer-led path is the right one.
