AI Coding Makes Taste More Valuable Than Raw Coding Speed

The more the author uses Claude Code, the less the advantage is producing more code: implementation is becoming the easy part, while deciding what should exist remains hard. Claude can quickly offer three reasonable implementations of a feature, but can't decide which fits the codebase, what complexity is worth introducing, or what should be left alone. He notes that without a strong design opinion beforehand, it's easy to accept the first clean-looking solution — which worries him more than occasional bad output. As implementation gets cheaper, engineering judgment becomes more valuable; the biggest beneficiaries are developers best at saying "this works, but I still don't want it in the codebase."
