Cursor data: AI edits nearly tripled since January, top 10% of users burn two-thirds of all tokens

Cursor has launched Insights, a research hub sharing what it learns from real usage, and its first report examines token consumption asymmetry:
- Productivity index: Indexed to 100 in the first week of January, AI edits per developer have nearly tripled and median PR size has more than doubled — developers are shipping more, larger changes with AI in the loop.
- Extreme token skew: Over the last four weeks, the most engaged 10% of users accounted for nearly two-thirds of all token use, with cohort differences broken down by language mix, model choice, and agent parallelism.
- Parallelism is the clearest gap: 86.6% of the most engaged cohort started a chat while another agent was running, versus 25.2% in the p50–p90 band. Cursor suggests this may preview how more developers will work as agents get better at completing and checking their own work.
