AI game startup Talespark raises tens of millions RMB angel round to build a World Director agent

Shanghai-based Talespark has raised a tens-of-millions-RMB angel round led by XVC. Founders: Cheng Lei, formerly of the Joy of Life IP adaptation, and Rolan, ex-Tencent AI Lab / TiMi AI lead. Its website is a pixel-art "cyber office" where digital avatars of real employees work.

Key points: rather than AI-generated assets or single-NPC personas, Talespark reorganizes the game core into a master Agent — the World Director — which reads player/character/relationship/environment state and dynamically orchestrates events, replacing exhaustive conditional branching in traditional game design. It also accumulates "experience assets": semantic records of who helped whom and who owes a favor, designed to be portable across platforms (Multi-end Pluggable). Cheng was convinced by the script-kill market (near 20B RMB in 2021 with only 5,000 creators) that China lacks new formats, not writers. A playable CRPG demo (2 humans + 5 AI in an afterlife murder mystery, 40-50 min sessions) is validated; the first title, Project S, targets Steam in early 2028. Open questions: long-run world consistency, what to remember or forget, and whether it's actually fun.
