FT: Anthropic preps for IPO with mission-focused trust holding board majority

Anthropic is preparing to go public while giving a mission-focused external trust unusual power over its board — a structure never tested by a serious profit conflict, FT reports.
The Long-Term Benefit Trust can appoint or remove directors and gets advance notice of major actions, including new AI model launches. Its authority is already operational: Trust-appointed directors now form a majority of the board.
The open question is whether trustees with no equity can restrain management when safety clashes with shareholder returns — no major conflict has yet tested it.
