Brockman admits OpenAI came late to real-world coding as Anthropic's $65B ARR passes OpenAI's $40B

OpenAI President Greg Brockman told TIME why Anthropic's ARR ($65B) has overtaken OpenAI's ($40B). He conceded OpenAI "focused less on real-world coding and came to that game late" — leading on coding-competition benchmarks while missing the "last-mile paper cuts" like messy codebases, mid-task interruptions and model personality that drive adoption. He also cited slower GTM execution, but says OpenAI's trajectory is steep.
