Miles Cranmer, creator of PySR/SymbolicRegression.jl, complains that AI slop in open-source software has gotten so bad he now maintains private forks of most of his dev stack. Every upstream release, he cherry-picks the bug fixes and deletes the new features — a stark illustration of the maintainer burden created by unreviewed AI-generated contributions.
