Google Research, HHMI Janelia and collaborators used AI to reconstruct the first complete connectome of an adult male fruit fly's brain and central nervous system, tracing 166,000+ neurons across nearly 11,700 cell types.
A major leap for connectomics and for understanding how neural circuits turn sensory input into behavior. The author notes the irony that some people still want to slow this technology down.
