Nvidia to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93B, deepening its open-source AI bet

Jensen Huang announced Nvidia will acquire Hugging Face for $12.93B. Per the filing, $11.9B goes to shareholders plus up to $1B in employee retention equity, with closing expected in H1 2027 pending regulatory approval.
Hugging Face hosts 3M+ models, 500K datasets and 1M apps, used by 18M+ developers and 200K companies — giving Nvidia a strong position in AI distribution, evaluation and deployment.
Nvidia is already the largest contributor of open models and data to the platform and recently launched the Nemotron Coalition with Mistral AI, Perplexity and Thinking Machines Lab. Huang framed open models as key to safety, innovation diffusion and AI sovereignty.
