OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever cited a neuroscience case: a patient who lost emotional processing after brain damage could still talk and solve problems, but became terrible at basic decisions — "it would take him hours to decide which socks to wear." The takeaway: emotions aren't a bug in thinking but a necessary component of decisions. The thread extends to AI design — current lab direction of stripping emotion for pure logic may be exactly backwards, since an AI can give 20 perfectly reasonable answers while somebody still has to care which outcome matters.
