Neuralink co-founder Sabes launches Arbor Neuroscience to make neuromodulation predictable

Philip Sabes, a leading neurotechnologist and Neuralink co-founder, announced that Forest Neurotech has been renamed Arbor Neuroscience, with the mission of moving from "Poke and Hope" to "Predict and Treat".
- The problem: brain stimulation works remarkably well for some patients, but no one can predict who benefits or explain failures, leaving patients in a cycle of intervene, wait, and relapse.
- The approach: instruments that both deliver energy and measure circuit activity could trace the causal chain — intervention, circuit response, symptom change — so each adjustment informs the next, for the patient and for future ones.
- Background: Forest had built an instrument to measure activity across the brain; Sabes left UCSF in 2017 to co-found Neuralink, scaling robotic implantation of flexible micron-scale electrode threads.
