OpenAI ships async function calling, mid-turn steering and cache-safe reasoning effort in Responses API
msg · x · 2026-09-04
OpenAI announced three new Responses API features: async function calling (the model keeps reasoning while tools run), mid-turn steering (inject messages — including tool outputs — into the model mid-reasoning to change direction), and changing reasoning effort without breaking the prompt cache. Docs are live; developers call the update launch-worthy on its own.
